Pre-cut and core scanning

Before a penetration goes through a slab or wall, GPR sweeps the proposed location in two directions and the returns are marked directly on the surface. The trade doing the cutting then positions holes to miss what the scan found, or relocates the penetration entirely.

Timing

When it's needed

Any coring, sawing, drilling or anchoring into a suspended slab warrants a scan, and on post-tensioned structures it is effectively non-negotiable, since a tendon strike risks injury, structural damage and a very disruptive repair. Even slab-on-ground work benefits when in-slab conduits or pipes are plausible.

Treat every unidentified object in a slab as live and every unmarked area as unscanned. If a cut nicks a conduit or a tendon, stop work, keep people clear of the slab face and get the relevant specialist on site before anything else happens.
